Daikokudo
Founded in 1929, the Daikokudo shop has been selling traditional local sweets for more than 80 years. Everything started with the creation and sale of a specialty “Ayu-yaki”—sponge cake containing red bean paste—sold as souvenir of the Tama River area, where one can fish for “Ayu” or sweetfish. Ayu-yaki are cooked one by one as clients order them at the shop window. Freshly made Ayu-yaki are steamy hot and sweet, making them very popular.
